State-of-the-Art Production
Steel Dynamics Roanoke Bar Division is also dedicated to providing the most cost-efficient production. To increase the speed of melting in our electric-arc furnaces, the melt shop employs oxygen fuel burners. Typically, we can charge, melt, and tap a heat in less than 70 minutes. A new ladle furnace, which began operation in 1996, increased our raw steel production, improved quality, decreased production costs, and improved operational efficiencies. Every aspect of our rolling mill utilizes computer technology. Our mill stands incorporate extremely accurate digital electronic drives, and each roll is designed with computer-aided technology. In our warehouse, a computer system tracks each bundle until shipment, enabling accurate, up-to-the-minute inventory and the most expedient shipping.

On-Time Delivery
Steel Dynamics Roanoke Bar Division is centrally located in Roanoke, Virginia, with fast and ready access to markets throughout the eastern United States by rail and truck. Over two-thirds of the U.S. population resides within a day's drive of Roanoke, and Steel Dynamics Roanoke Bar Division presently serves customers in 21 states. Rail service is provided by the Norfolk Southern Corporation. For truck freight, our main plant is located just minutes from Interstate 81, with more than 50 truck carriers serving the area.
